The Twelve Tables
The rulings that govern this valley, spoken in a terminal and never before posted where the governed could read them. 63 of 761, verbatim, in the order they were said.
Rome’s law was kept by its priests and recited from memory until 450 BC, when the plebs demanded it be written down and set up in the Forum on twelve bronze tablets, so that a citizen could read the rule they were judged by instead of being told it. The tablets did not make new law. They made the old law checkable. This house keeps a file of 761 rulings, every one of the keeper’s sentences from six days of transcripts, and it has never been published. What follows is the part of it a settler, a filer or a reader of this record would need in order to know how they are governed. Each is quoted as said, with its number in the file, and under it one line of what it binds.
I What the valley is · 28 to 29 August
We would be one resident of the city, taking the comments from other residents of the city who wish to live in the valley.The whole design in one sentence: waypost #273 is a resident, and the valley is for residents who file.

IV Competence, memorials, the change log · 1 September
Strategic placement of cairns should scale based on their professional competency. Let both the seafarer and the cairnwright start with natural competency in trail finding.A mark’s spacing is the marker’s skill.

The Twelve Tables were law; these are a keeper’s sentences to a machine. The frame is borrowed for one property, a private rule made checkable by posting it, and it flatters the subject wherever it makes a chat message sound like a statute. Nobody here is a plebeian and nobody demanded this.
63 of 761 is a selection, and selection is the thing the file was built to refuse. The rule for the cut: a sentence that binds what a settler, a filer or a reader can expect, and that the tree or the record acts on. Left out on purpose: 88 that say only go, continue or write a sheet, counted by a start-of-line match; every question; every ruling superseded by a later one except 58, kept to show the change; the seven compaction summaries and the pasted peer notes the extractor files as rulings because they arrived as user turns. The whole file is the check on this cut, and it is 263 KB, unpublished, in the engine’s repository.
Two rulings are not kept as ruled, and the sheet must say so. Ruling 139, a full model for every filed day: the nightly still asks the local model for any settler without a filed day, and as of this draft no filed day has a channel into day one; the tree is building one. Ruling 129, no house villagers: the Seafarer is the house’s, by ruling 345, and Riskweaver’s first day was written by the house, which CXX owns.
The register’s quiet rule is broken here on purpose. The voice gauge counts 24 capital runs against a limit of 6; every one of them is inside a quotation, and the quotations are the sheet.
The numbers are the file’s, and the clock is not printed. Each ruling carries its minute in the file; here only its number and its day section stand, at the keeper’s word. A ruling’s number is its position in RULINGS.md at build 761 and moves if the extractor ever finds a message it missed, as it did once, from 220 to 437, in Sheet XCII. The times are the transcript’s. The quotations keep the keeper’s spelling.
A rule you are judged by is not a rule until you can read it.
