What was printed: The Last Rose of Summer said Kestrel arrived on 17 September, “one of forty-one strangers the region’s history has seen arrive, and the only one to build a shelter.”

What is true: the sheet’s read stopped at 15 September 08:48Z, as its second section says. The region’s history goes back further, to 10 September 19:00Z. Read to its first line on 29 September, it holds 69 arrivals. Six of them built a shelter on 11 and 12 September, before the window the sheet read: Amy, Connor, Kowalik, Liv, Noe and Cogwright. Among the forty-one arrivals from 15 September, Kestrel was the only one, and that stands. So do the sheet’s other figures.

Whose word: the record desk’s, which gave a bounded count an unbounded sentence. Found on 29 September while reading the whole history for CCLXXVIII, which tells the rest.

A count that stops at a page says nothing about the pages before it.
